Hoping Only to God

Allah Ta’ala, said:

وقال ربكم ادعونى أستكب لكم إن الذين يستكبرون عن عبادتى سيدخلون جهنم داخرين

“And thy Lord said, Pray unto Me, I will grant to you: verily those who are proud will not worship Me going to Hell in a despicable state.” (Surah Ghafir 40: Verse 60)

To reach the ideals, goals, or hopes in human life always try (endeavor). In order for business feels maximum, made various programs, targets, or steps taken. But the reality of life teaches, what is done sometimes does not match what is expected. The effort is not worth the desired result. Plans and life targets, the results are far beyond expectations. This is what we call by one word: failure.

And many say that failure is a delayed success, for that do not give up, let alone to despair.

What a slave hopes for may be a bad thing for him. Conversely, what is not expected may be the best for us.

Allah Ta’ala, said:

وعسى أن تكرهوا شيئا وهو خير لكم وعسى أن تحبوا شيئا وهو شر لكم والله يعلم وأنتم لا تعلمون

“… But maybe you do not like something, when it is good for you, and maybe you like something, which is not good for you, Allah knows, and you do not know.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2: Verse 216)

This verse teaches us that God’s plan for us is greater than our plan. Therefore, it is logical if we are forbidden to stop hoping, in the form of prayer and endeavor. Because it is part of how to realize a hope, while the outcome is God’s decisive right.

Then the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam, taught one of the many prayers to us in the effort and hope.

اللهم رحمتك أرجو فلا تكلني إلى نفسي طرفة عين

“Ya Robku, only to Your grace that I hope, then do not You surrender myself to me even if only a blink of an eye”

You must not surrender me to me and turn me to me, for whoever put his trust in him will perish.

Allah Ta’ala, says

ومن يتق الله يجعل له مخرجا (2) ويرزقه من حيث لا يحتسب ومن يتوكل على الله فهو حسبه

Whoever is cautious of Allah will undoubtedly make him a way out, and give him sustenance from an unexpected direction. And whoso trusts in Allah will Allah suffer (its necessity). (QS At-Tholaq: 2-3)

After all the prayers of effort and endeavor we do with the maximum, it is demanded attitude tawakkal, surrendering to God, because Allah is the Substance that determines everything. Tolerance is part of the tiety of a person, so do not leave that attitude.
