The first revelation that descended on the 17th of Ramadan 13 years before the migration became a challenge the Prophet preached Islam. God’s Word was then a call to mankind to read on His behalf. It is the order of the Creator to submit and obey Him by admitting there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
Did the Prophet immediately call out to humankind to convert? No. He secretly invites his near friends: Khadija the wife, Ali bin Abi Talib his cousin, and his companions, to embrace Islam. Dozens of people later called assabiqunal awwalunini then helped to spread Islam secretly (siri / clandestine).
Abdul Muttalib’s grandson did not want his da’wah to cause a commotion that gave rise to resistance that resulted in failure. This is the clandestine mission that enters into the life of Arab society which then changes the life of the world.
Such da’wah is a classic intelligence style. In it there are elements: (1) secretive networking, (2) analysis, (3) intelligence counters, and (4) silent operations (Philip H.J Davies, Kristian C. Gustafson: 2013).
The first is propaganda prophet to assabiqunal awwalun. The second is the form of interaction of the Prophet with the Companions to observe the circumstances. Third is the overcoming of the attacks of ignorant people who regard Islam as contrary to the existing tradition. This happened after the period of the Da’wah siri. The last is a silent operation, like carrying the Prophet in secret from Makkah to Medina.
World intelligence is now growing rapidly. It used to be human-centered. Now the world of intelligence is absolutely supported by technological sophistication. Head of State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Budi Gunawan explained how the current intelligence technology continues to grow.
The lecture delivered at ITB attracted the attention of hundreds of intellectuals. This is a rare opportunity, because not often the secret world of intelligence is expressed. I am convinced that the former deputy chief was only a small part of the secret intelligence dynamics.
He stressed, now is the time BIN entered the era of intelligence 3.0, by applying technology. So collaboration with a campus like ITB is something to do, just like the CIA that works with MIT in the United States. The top campus in technology is the backbone of intelligence agencies in many developed countries, he said.
Some ITB technologies can help overcome the phenomenon of cyber war that is potentially tearing this nation and causing vertical and horizontal conflicts. Budi conveyed, a number of examples of technological developments that are busy discussed in the world, among them is cryptocurrency or virtual currency. The technology is created by involving disciplines related to the security code of communication systems or secret codes.
Other there is dark web. Unlike Google or other search engines, dark webdiakses use special tools that make accessing difficult to trace. This one technology becomes a very convenient vehicle for criminals in action. Drug syndicates, for example, are very likely to use this sophistication to smooth giant transactions.
There is another cyber attack. Today’s people who rely heavily on the internet will be distracted and can not even do anything if the informatics system they used to visit is suddenly inaccessible. The bank, for example, is very likely to lose big when its online system is hacked. Even the economy of the country is very likely to be paralyzed by the attack. This signifies the current war is not always with bloody weaponry. Enough with the sophistication of informatics technology the enemy will be paralyzed.
Technological developments cause anomalies of economic transformation along with the development of the creative, digital, and data era, in Indonesia. Budi realized that all phenomena must be addressed wisely. It is in this context that it acts as the eyes and ears of the state to predict, prevent, detect, and respond to changes in the world that affect the national interest. The targets are ideological, political, economic, social, cultural, to defense, and security aspects.
What is unfortunate is that technological innovation in Indonesia is still faced with a number of obstacles, such as availability of facilities and quality of human resources (HR). Therefore, it takes strategic effort to answer the challenges and global dynamics. The advancement of domestic technology, optimizing the national human resources, and encouraging the intensification of collaboration with the center of technological innovation, is a necessity if this nation wants to advance, including in the world of intelligence.
Do not forget HR. Technological controls, including intelligence personnel, without the support of qualified human resources, will only be unlawful powers and traitors who are clearly detrimental to the nation. Building quality human resources should not only see the times.
